Build India Group

Build India Group (BIG) conducts a nationwide pledge ceremony to promote constitutional values and responsible citizenry among students and youth. The pledge, drafted in 22 Indian languages, is recited by millions of students during the annual Pledge Festival.

The Pledge (English)

“We the people of India today do solemnly pledge ourselves to the service of our nation; with honesty, sincerity and commitment, always keeping our nation’s interest paramount in all that we think, do or say, for the greater glory of this land.”

Students also make written commitments in their mother tongues, affirming:

• “We reject violence.”
• “We promise to keep our environment clean and tidy.”
• “We promise to be good citizens.”

The pledge is available in 22 languages, including Hindi, Sanskrit, Urdu, Assamese, Bengali, Odia, Telugu, Tamil, Malayalam, Kannada, Marathi, Gujarati, Punjabi, Manipuri, Santhali, Kashmiri, and English.

On the day of the ceremony, the pledge is recited together in a charged, inspiring ambience, accompanied by cultural programmes such as dance, drama, singing, poster competitions, debates, and essay writing — all centered on nation-building.
