Creating Good Citizenry
Build India Group has created a Citizen's Pledge aimed at replacing the earlier National Pledge. The pledge recognises that a citizen must not only be a good human being, but must also commit to the Fundamental Duties enshrined in the Constitution, always placing the nation's interest first.
“We the people of India today do solemnly pledge ourselves to the service of our nation; with honesty, sincerity and commitment always keeping our nation's interest paramount in all that we think, do or say for the greater glory of this land.”
The pledge has been drafted in 22 Indian languages and is already in circulation across educational institutions throughout the country.
On the day of the Pledge Ceremony, students recite the pledge in their mother tongue, affirm written commitments signed jointly with their parents, and receive certificates of participation.
The ceremony is accompanied by cultural activities such as songs, drama, debates, poster competitions, essay writing, tree planting and other nation-building exercises.
Since Constitution Day was instituted in 2015, the Pledge Ceremony has become an integral part of Constitution Day celebrations in many educational institutions.
Increasingly, schools are adopting the pledge as part of their daily morning prayers. Our aspiration is to see it become part of morning assemblies in educational institutions across India.
